5 Ways to Help Clients Relax During an Eyelash Extension Treatment

by Alfred Venegas

I think all of us can agree that life can be stressful. We are busy juggling work, family and friends and sometimes we neglect to allocate enough time for ourselves to relax and unwind.

It’s important for you, as a lash artist, to give your clients a calm and comfortable place to forget about the worries of the world for a few hours during lash extensions. When you set the ambiance, your clients will appreciate and learn to expect the much needed quiet and relaxing experience.

Here are 5 ways you can help your clients feel relaxed during the whole eyelash extensions treatment and leave your lash salon or room content and well-rested. Client experience starts with the following:

1. Make clients feel welcome during lash extensions

Once your client walks into your lash room or salon, make them feel welcomed and important. Everyone has their own stresses, including yourself, but don’t let that affect your mood and work.

Smile and genuinely ask your client how they are doing. Treat your clients like you are welcoming them into your home, offer light refreshments (when possible), hang their coats, and ask if they need to use the restroom. This is the best way to make them feel at ease and relaxed before their lash extensions.

2. Help clients get comfortable during lash extensions

Your client will be laying down for at least an hour up to 3 hours depending on the type of service they want. Help your client get cozy by offering a leg pillow, blankets, or extra pillows to help support their back and legs while laying down. A client that is relaxed and comfortable will most likely fall asleep and get the much needed lash nap they deserve.

Make sure you always have clean blankets and the right lash pillows on hand for all lash extensions appointments.

3. Turn on a diffuser when you are doing lash extensions

Smelling nice and relaxing aromas can help relax your clients. Diffusers are the ideal tool to help you with that. Electric diffusers help spread relaxing aromas in the room without it being too overpowering. Because the oil is mixed with water, the potency or fragrance is not too much for your client. Less is more, so if it’s your first time using a particular scent err on the side of caution and add half of the recommended amount, then adjust as needed.

Add relaxing and calming scents to your diffuser, such as lavender, jasmine, vanilla, sea breeze, lemon, cinnamon, peppermint, ylang ylang, etc. You can also mix these scents along with other citrus scents like orange and lime to add a touch of freshness to the room during lash extensions.

4. Play relaxing music while applying lash extensions

Music is the best way to help relax your clients. One of the main benefits of music is it works as a stress reliever. Put an amazing Spotify playlist on your phone then attach it to your speakers and click play.

Make sure to choose the right playlist that can relax your clients but encourage you to work while applying lash extensions. You might feel sleepy if you choose super soothing music. Balance is the key. Look for playlists with relaxing music like pop, smooth jazz, country, soft rock, or even reggae (if you are into it). Once you find the perfect playlist be sure to adjust your volume so it’s not too loud.

5. Offer refreshments during lash extensions

An added perk for clients is free refreshments. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we sometimes forget to drink water, or we may not realize we are even thirsty- having light refreshments might help to reset your client’s mood and headspace.

Keep in mind, your client will be laying down for a few hours, so you don’t want them to drink too much, otherwise they will need to use the restroom during lash extensions. Also, caffeine tends to make clients jittery, offer refreshments that are caffeine-free.

When your client enters your establishment, their mind might be filled with worries and problems. It is your duty as a lash artist to give them a place they can relax and hopefully forget their problems, even just for a few hours. Client experience is essential for every appointment. It’s a great feeling to know that when they open their eyes they are more relaxed and their eyelashes look amazing!
